ARTISTS STATEMENT
I have pursued a serious study of sculpture, painting and drawing from my late 30's onwards, after travelling to Europe on study leave in 1982 and again in 2002, 2010 and to Italy in 2011 and 2015 to exhibit in The Florence Biennale. I am inspired by nature and different cultures by my travels to Sth America, Sth Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Russia and Turkey. I like to explore different media and techniques, carving in wood, limestone and alabaster. I also use constructive techniques as in oxy welding with sheet steel plus modelling clay and wax, resulting in small bronze sculptures. Each process requires a different thinking and is an additional challenge. I also paint in oils, watercolours and experiment with mono prints and pen and ink. Other interests include travel, walking reading, exploring nature, family and friends. |
